3G mobile network shutdown in the USA
Since February, US operators (AT&T and T-Mobile) have been gradually stopping their 2G/3G mobile networks throughout the United States.
To help you organize your trips and ensure that you can continue to make calls, send SMSs or browse the Internet from the United States*, you will need to switch to 4G/VoLTE mobile networks when entering the country. You have to be equipped accordingly.

The United States has decided to gradually cut off its 3G network. This decision affects all foreign visitors to the United States regardless of their operator. Only 4G networks remain opened, including for calls.
4G Voice (VoLTE technology) is a network innovation that allows you to make your calls directly on the 4G network. You can benefit from it immediately if you meet all the eligibility conditions.

Yes, we advise you to update your mobile to the latest software.
For iPhone:
- You can activate or deactivate this service from your iPhone settings at any time
- Go to Settings > Options > Voice and data > Activate or deactivate VoLTE
- And Activate or deactivate VoLTE “Data abroad”

For Androïd:
- VoLTE can’t be deactivated on Androïd mobiles
- If your mobile is VoLTE compatible, you can call all types of numbers. Your interlocutor does not need to have a compatible 4G/VoLTE Voice mobile to be reached.

For Android Samsung mobiles:
- VoLTE is enabled by default on Android phones
- On Samsung series phones, you can disable it by going to the menu: Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > VoLTE SIM Calls x
Until December 31, 2022, you have to switch to T-Mobile network to make calls and send SMS. But mobile internet will no longer be available.
From January 1, 2023, no more 2G/3G service will be available in the USA and you must have a 4G/VolTe plan and smartphone compatibles.
If your mobile is VoLTE (4G) incompatible, you may not be able to use emergency call services in the United States.
-You benefit from VoLTE abroad automatically and without additional cost, as long as you have a mobile and plan compatibles, and when you are under 4G coverage.
- VoLTE calls abroad are treated the same as a call made on a foreign network. There’s no specific pricing for 4G calls abroad.
- VoLTE abroad does not consume the internet volume of your plan.
